About the presentation:

Lean is greatly touted an effective method for the improvement of process performance Lean Six Sigma promises to be a power addition to Six Sigma.  Unlike Six Sigma which is pretty straightforward, Lean is based on philosophies critical to its application. It is not structured as with the Six Sigma DMAIC process, and has a large number of possible tools specific to the problem to be resolved that are sometimes incorrectly applied.

This lecture improves the understanding of Lean concepts for ASQ certified Green and Black Belts, and provides a foundation for individuals wanting to learn Lean or become ASQ Six Sigma certified.  The workshop uses a case study to provide hands-on learning experience and will illustrate what is required to understand a process from a Lean perspective and how to map a process using Value Stream Mapping. Also covered are the fundamental metrics such as Lead-time, Cycle Time, Takt, as well as other frequently used tools and will touch on how Lean is used in different industries.

About the speaker:

Jerry Mairani is a Past President of the American Society for Quality, a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and an ASQ Fellow.  He has been a fulltime quality professional since 1984, holding several positions as Quality Director as well as consulting for major Fortune 500 Organizations in food processing, manufacturing, insurance, government, military, and aerospace.  He is currently working with Sacramento State University setting up their quality education program as a Sacramento ASQ Section Project and the workshop draws from that body of work.
